So many pallets, so much pain!
Using reclaimed pallets is not for the faint hearted! They are a lot of blood, sweat and pain, but if you can tough it out, its worth it for the hundreds of pounds you save! Luckily, I’m really happy with how they turned out.
Originally, I was going to use larch to clad the outside of the house, but when I went to order it, it was going to be over £1,000 for my very small house. As soon as I found out how much it was going to cost, I went round the local businesses and a couple of building sites collecting unused pallets. A friend of mine also came down with a van-load of pallets and we spent the weekend smashing and cutting them apart.
An added bonus: I was able to use the left over wood in the log burner during the first winter in the lorry.
Pallet wood has also been used to cover the ceiling and walls inside. I stained the roof dark brown and I white washed the walls.
I was also able to us the large bracings from the pallets to build my kitchen frame and the sofa surround.
